My Grand Vision For Singapore - The Spiritual Renaissance City

- The Spiritual Renaissance City

“Where there is genuine vision, people excel and learn,
not because they are told to, but because they want to”
– Peter M. Senge

There is a saying "Without A Vision, The People Perish."
My vision for Singapore is to be "The Brain and Soul of the World".

The European renaissance was created by a core of revolutionary individual minds. Quoting the Life section of the Straits Times March 17, 2000, "Our Renaissance City Vision Must Start With The Individual," this implies that if the Government aspires Singapore to be the New Renaissance City', they must have the confidence in the people to have a sense of direction to steer Singapore to the new world, thus it is imperative that we, as Singaporeans, spawn new ideas. Such new ideas should not be narrowly confined to those that not only sustain and propel our economic growth but also include the very essence of the 'Renaissance' spirit as the 'rebirth' or the revival of philosophy, literature, arts and architecture. Therefore, it is necessary to allow new ideas or breakthroughs in philosophy, literature, arts and architecture to flourish in Singapore making it a world-class home.

A reluctance to keep up with times because we are beguiled with our present will only retard our progress. Ms Ong Soh Chin the senior writer from Straits Times said, "Someone needs to roll the dice and take a chance - not necessarily on a casino, but on A Bold New Vision."

My vision is for Singapore to reach its goal of a true renaissance city through the Marina South Downtown project, which will enable us to maintain the soulfulness of our amazing nation.

  b) Mosque
  c) Chinese Temple
  d) Indian Temple
  e) Synagogue

What Is This Bold New Vision?

The bold new vision I am talking about is based on LKY's legacy. We can say without a doubt that the legacy that he has left behind is the present Singapore. I believe he has "Concrete Values" and a "Pioneering Spirit" and I would like to share this with the world through the architectural form based on his lifetime work to forge harmony in a multi racial, multi cultural and multi religious society.

MM Lee is the Father of Singapore figuratively speaking. He is a sincere man who really cares for the well being of the people and as far as I can remember MM Lee's whole life has been all about sacrifice. The sacrifices we now must make as a people and nation should be to bring Harmony for all Singapore's communities in an organic way. MM Lee's emphasis is very much centered on bringing about "Racial & Religious Harmony" as our corner stone for nation building and the next natural step is the road to "World Harmony". For this reason he has established another milestone in nation building, The Inter Religious Organization.

In architectural term "Racial & Religious Harmony " - a Church, Mosque, Hindu temple, Chinese temple and Synagogue standing side by side each other. All these 5 institutions collectively will also act as museums too. It will be a one of a kind museum which would further illustrate our commitment towards racial and religious harmony and peace.

In architectural term the road to "World Harmony" - A building named as World Harmony House that will house the Inter Religious Organization Office and LKY Library & Museum. LKY Library & Museum will be created to commemorate his lifetime works and achievements.

This unique landmark will be located around the Marina Reservoir because Marina South has a great deal of potential to be the center of the Skyline of a Renaissance City that will make us proud of who we are and will become. The tourists from around the world will come here and as well as enjoying themselves they will also have the opportunity to learn how we achieved harmony in a multi racial, multi cultural and multi religious society. Classes will be conducted at all these premises, to enrich the lives of all interested parties and individuals. Where else in the world could you have such an experience that will open new horizons for years to come for all of humanity?
