Dear Mr. Annan,
I thought that this proposal; calling for World
Harmony Day would be of interest to you due to the
current situation in Afghanistan. I have developed a
proposal that has the potential to become a
significant milestone in the history of peace making.
"We all die but few of us really live."
This line has been attributed to a Scots national hero
and you have the ability to be one of the "few"
by
helping us make this proposal work. It will be a great
challenge for all of us to make 200220022002 a
reality. All it needs is your belief that it CAN
actually happen and the UN's unparalleled ability to
spread the word.
Please lend your voice and the weight of your good
offices to help restore harmony to our world for our
sake and more importantly, for the sake of all our
children - Surely one of the most fundamental tenets
of the UN.
I do realize that you must truly be a very busy man
therefore I thank you for your precious time.
Yours Truly,
Sunflower Chong

Congratulations on winning the Nobel Peace Prize
Dear Mr. Annan,
On behalf of my countrymen from Singaporeans, I would
like to congratulate you and the United Nations on
receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. I hope that you
received my fax on 26 November 2001 calling for "World
Harmony Day". After watching the program "Prize
for
Peace", we were inspired to rename it "The Nobel
World
Peace Silence". It is the Nobel centenary and for
a
man who did so much to strive for peace, naming this
international action after him would be a very fitting
testament to his achievement.
In recognition of the United Nation's achievements,
this prize marks not the end of your contributions but
on the contrary a powerful beginning. In fact, the
mandate to lead the world towards peace with "The
Nobel World Peace Silence" lies in your hands. Create
awareness and gathering support worldwide will stop
the ongoing violence and thus save humanity from
itself. As mentioned in your speech, the world body
should be guided in the 21st century by the idea that
to save one life was "to save humanity itself".
Frank Lloyd Wright said great architecture is born not
made. Similarly, a great leader like you possesses
great inner powers that are innate good judgment and
neither be made nor trained. Mr. Johnathan Mann
questioned your quiet and calm to the world. I was
mesmerized with the way you answered with your cool
level-headedness as a silent power connecting with the
world at large. It is evident that you are born for
the position you now hold.
Kofi Annan stands for truth and the truth is that your
love for humanity is your driving force that makes UN
so respected. You are also very adorable to all of us
especially to my daughter and I.
Just this morning my daughter Greta said, "He is
so
cool."
Then I asked, "Who is so cool?"
"Mr. Kofi Annan." she answered with such expression
of
love on her face and then she added, "he is my idol".
I replied that you are mine too, I believe the whole
world agrees with us too. The only present that we can
give is by working very hard to achieve world peace.
When you said "we must give hope to the world"
this
captured our hearts and inspired us to work even
harder.
In short we love you, so does the whole world. We love
you for who you are and the way you carry diplomacy
with USA and especially after the September 11th
bombing.
Yours Truly,
Sunflower Chong

The work we had done up until now for 200220022002
Dear Mr. Annan,
My family wishes you and your wife a very belated
Happy New Year and many more to come. Thank you for
the letter dated 29 Nov 2001. After reading the letter
I understood that as an individual I could only appeal
to the leaders of the world with the hope that they
will bring my proposal to United Nations.
Our greatest gift to you is to work very hard beside
United Nations to achieve World Peace. Since
conception of "World Harmony Day" on 11-11-2001,
my
daughter and I had not stop a minute in our pursued to
make 200220022002 a reality. I have been calling and
sending the proposal to most of the World Leaders,
Individuals, Permanent Missions to the UN and Media.
We have received letters of acknowledgement and
consideration from Prime Minister Helen Clark
(19-12-2001), Prime Minister Tony Blair (09-01-2002)
and France Foreign Ministry (09-01-2001). Although it
is not a commitment but it gave us motivation to
continue the struggle to bring hope to the world at
large.
In your speech in November before the UN General
Assembly, you stated that your second term priorities
is to eradicate poverty, the struggle against Aids,
the prevention of deadly conflicts and global economic
sustainability. In the eloquent speech by Bill Clinton
"The Struggle for the Soul of the 21st Century"
is an
important testament where the answer lies.
The answer is to have the wisdom and will. As
questioned by Bill Clinton, these two attributes hold
the key to our success only when we choose them. He
was absolutely confident that we have the knowledge
and the means to make the 21st century the most
peaceful prosperous, interesting time in all human
history. This gave us great strength and confidence to
pursue in our endeavour.
We will show the world that we have the wisdom and
will by seizing 200220022002, this amazing opportunity
of "World Harmony Day", to commit to each other
for
the sake of our children's children that we will
strive for a new beginning to a more peaceful world.
In short it is like signing a contract to garantee
peace for our children. To mark this significant day
we will host it annually just like the "Terry Fox
Run"
to collect funds for Education. (It will be a great
idea to link this program with UNICEF - The Unity
Chain and 200220022002 can be - The Peace Chain)
In order to eradicate poverty, the best weapon
we can help to arm the third world countries is
with Education. Moreover, it is a worthy cause for
humanity but most importantly on this day 20 February
every year, everyone around the world will be
reminded of our sacred duty not to take Peace for
granted. Although this is not an end-all solution,
it can be a very important symbolic start
towards peace.
I would like to report to you our progress up until
now:
1) We had already set up the website -
www.worldharmonyday.com
2) We had email to NGO, individuals and Permanent
Missions to UN to assist us in our endeavour.
3) We had sent our proposal to most of the World
leaders directly.
4) We had sent our proposal to Mr. Michael Bloomberg,
the Mayor of New York and propose the idea of
organizing a special event on 200220022002 with the
support of Sony Corporation in America and the Irish
Rock Group U2.(If Sony is not interested we can
approach EMI Group. In fact we had also written to
them)
5) We had written to Britain Development Minister Miss
Clare Short to assist us in convincing PM Tony Blair
and U2 to help us in our cause.
Yours Truly,
Sunflower Chong
